December work

Catching up again on what I did during this month.......

9 Dec 2012
I weeded and dug up the northern corner of the patch to airate it. I dug up some of the dreeded and bad baffalo grass that spreads like a cancer.

Watered the garden.

Noticed the Zuchini, Cucumber, Climbing Beans are sprouting.

Also notice the photos I took as below. First shows where I dug up. Second shows watering, WoW!

13 Dec 2012
Again I dug up a small section of the vegetable garden to airate it and getting it ready for future planting.

Noticed the Shallots, Purple Carrots, Silverbeet showing through now.

Weather warming up and things starting to take off now.

17 Dec 2012
Noticed the Pumpkin I planted has come through, and both batches of carrots are now taking off, and potatoes are growing well and have really surfaced.

I have been watering every morning for a few weeks now, so all starting to fall into place. But the weeds are starting to come through so I need to begin to pull weeds every day, bit by bit. See below pictures.

.....now up to date.

Happy gardening!

More Summer Seed Sowing

Hi

On the 8th December 2012, I sowed 9 x Jarrahdale Pumpkin plants, 18 x Sweetcorn, & Mixed coloured Carotts. I then watered. I noticed Rocket and Raddish peaking through. See pictures below:

Short but sweet post, thanks for your interest. S.
Hey to the 6+ billion of you,

I'm playing catch up here.

Back on the 2 December 2012 I did a lot of work in the vegetable garden. My bro in the days before pulled out all the weeds from the patch (well 97% of it). Believe me the weeds and grass in the patch were up to my hips in height. It was shit. See the below picture.

Anyway with all the weeds behind me, I turned over afew days later some of the soil to air it out and I added compost which I had going for a good year. And dug it over again. BTW, there are millions of grass seeds from all the weeds, scattered all over the patch. So I havee to keep aim at removing the new grass/weeds as they grow.

So on the 2nd December I sowed the following seeds into the patch:

1. Rocket.
2. Shallots.
3. Two zuchini plants.
4. Purple haze carotts.
5. Climbing beans.
6. Cucumbers.
7. Coriander.
8. Six tomato varieties namely:
  a) Marglobe Lycopersicon lycoperscum;
  b) Tommy Toes;
  c) Black Cherry  Lycopersicon lycoperscum;
  d) Ox Heart Red;
  e) Two Roma Tomatoes;
  f) Beef Steak;
9. Basil.
10. Cos lettuce.
11. Oregano.
12. Four rows of potatoes (not sure which variety, just threw them in as they were last years stock.

I watered the garden and dug up most of the last potatoes. My bro when weeding took up afew of the garlic I planted, so there is only about four garlic plants left. I don't blame him, there was so much weeds. See the pictures below.

So yes, I look forward to this seasons vegetable gardening.

Garlic in for 2012

Hey Fellow Gardeners!

It's been a while. The vegy patch is looking abit sore and has been unattended over the last few months.

So today, just before the rain, I removed last years tomatoe plants and stakes and made way for the new generation of garlic. So I pullled out the weeds from there and turned it over with a shovel. I then sowed the garlic seeds.

I took some pictures, so see them below. In order, The first picture shows a sore and unattended part of the vegetable garden where the garlic will go; The second picture illustrates the soil all dug up and generally raked  with garlic laid out ready for sowing after I have weeded it; And thirdly this picture shows all garlic sowed just before it started to rain this afternoon. A general note: On the right of the photo I have sowed 18 cloves of last years garlic stock, and, on the left side I have sowed 37 cloves Goodman garlic seeds (Garlic Austral). So it will be interesting to see what is going to happen there and which proves the best.

Garlic will be ready in about 6 monthhs, ie mid December. So happy vegy gardening!

End of January 2012 V/Gardening

Hey

It's been a month. This post will mainly be with pictures with a summary. Please see below:

Purple carrotts sown in bed and cos lettuce growing exceptionally well.

Red Peppers just transplanted and watered next to the brown onions.

Potatoes on the right, tomatoes top middle.

Sweet corn growing well, although I was late in planting them this season.

This is where the most action in the vegie patch is; there are carrotts, cos lettuce, basil, pumpkin, zuchini, and at bottom left is coriander flowering. It looks rather busy and crowded.

Potatoes annd asparagus in the background.

Brown onions starting to mature.

My first tomatoes. They werew sweet. Tommy Toes.

Today I sowed new pack of Purple Haze Carrotts beside the cos lettuce. Also I transplanted the Red Peppers to a bed beside where they were. Gave all a good watering. Tommorrow the weather forecast is 95% rain and aiming for 25-50mm. Quite abit, so hope it eventuates. Noticed and picked the first tomatoes for the season. I can say I'm glad. The tomatoes were Tommy Toe. Had them in a salad tonight. In other news, the brown onions are growing well and will be ready for harvest in the coming week or three. Potatoes are doing well. In the last few weeks I dug up last years potatoes. Were good. So the carrott (purple) should be ready in the next week or so, shallotts and lettuce and basil and climbing beans are a plenty! I love the patch, the patch is producing very well now. Until next time..................
