What my vegetable garden looks like this morning on this rather warm Christmas morning. I placed the last of the sugar cane mulch around the zucchini and cucumber to help with the moisture in the soil. We are going away for a few days and I need the moisture to keep, even though there is rain predicted late this afternoon and storms tomorrow. I also gave a healthy watering too. Merry Christmas and wishing you a successful 2014 vegetable patch in your backyard!

Seedlings emerge!
Hi,
On the 14th December '13, I noticed the first of the seedlings emerging. See the picture below.
First to come through is the zuchini and radish. They are pretty much doubling in size every day (early on).
Also, tomatoes are gtrowing well, you can see the growth going well each day. We have had beautiful warm weather and with myself watering, the vegies are growing very well.
Now today (16 December 2013) ....... just watered and took a general update photo of the vegatable garden as it is now. Quite a difference since the 14th! See below.

Seeded new seeds
Yo!
Yesterday afternoon I removed weeds and dug up an area of the vegetable garden to air over night. See below my efforts of yesterday.
I then this morning spread out concentrate manure pelets and dug that in.
After raking the area, I then sowed the following seeds:
1. Radish - Scarlet Globe (Raphanus sativus)
2. Shallot - Longwhite Bunching (Allium cepa)
3. Sweet Corn - Early Extra Sweet F1 (Zea mays)
4. Zucchini - Romanesco (Cucurbita pepo)
5. Cucumber - Long Green Supermarket (Cucumis sativus)
See picture below showing new beds prior to me watering.
I watered and that's it. Thank god I got them in as it is past early December.
Lastly but not less important, I staked the tomatoes I have in the vegie garden. They are growing well. See the pic below.
Cheers, Steve The VegyGardener.

November Planting - Tomatoes
Hi after a fairly long absense. So let's get straight into it with an update of what has happened in the veggie patch.
1. Not very much. Problem is I have let it go again and is full of weeds.
2. I have cleared and cultivated a section of the vegetable garden for tomato plants. See picture below showing the area cleared and the state of the garden.17 November 2013.
3. Planted eight tomatoe plants and mulched with sugar cane. Planted about the one meter apart from each other. Tomatoes chosen were: Roma, Mini Sugar Plum, Blood Oath, Mortage Lifter, Rebel, Beef Steak, & Ox Heart. See picture below.19 November 2013.
Summer is upon us and starts today!
Bye for now. S.
